A practical guide for dog owners

Penfold is not a turn-up-anytime municipal dog garden. It sits inside an operating racecourse, and its schedule changes around barrier trials, day and night race meetings, special events and weather. Read the live monthly panel on the HKJC page before travelling, then follow the entrance signage because enhancement works may alter lift, tunnel or staircase access.

The 2026 upgrade materially changed the visit: a gated Pet Zone, covered seating, toilets, lighting and emergency kiosks are now part of the official facility description. Use the Pet Zone for off-leash play and keep your dog controlled elsewhere, especially around lakes, egrets, families and construction boundaries.

Pony World is a separate booked attraction, not an amenity for dogs. Its opening sessions, tickets and animal-interaction rules are independent from general park access. If you are bringing both children and a dog, plan the two parts separately and never assume a dog may enter a pony activity.

Is this your dog's kind of park?

Penfold Park is a pet-friendly green space inside Sha Tin Racecourse, built and managed by the Hong Kong Jockey Club. Following its 2026 upgrades, the park has a gated Pet Zone, pathway lighting, covered seating, new toilets, emergency kiosks and the separate ticketed Pony World attraction. Normal park hours are seasonal, with later opening on barrier-trial dates and early closure or closure around race meetings, so this is a venue to verify on the day rather than assume.

What dog owners ask

What time does Penfold Park open?

Normal hours are 9am-7:30pm from May to September and 9am-6:30pm from October to April. Barrier trials, race meetings, events and weather can change them.

Can dogs go off-leash at Penfold Park?
