Privacy Policy

This policy applies to the DogDogHK website and DogDogHK mobile app. DogDogHK is an independent, non-profit community project. We collect only the information needed to run the guide and its optional community features. We do not sell personal data or use it for targeted advertising.

Information we handle

  • You can browse places without creating an account.
  • If you create an account, we store your email address, authentication records, display name, handle, profile details and policy acceptance.
  • Optional account data includes saved places and collections, dog outing preferences, reviews, ratings, votes, reports, corrections and photos you choose to submit.
  • When you explicitly use Nearby, the app requests foreground approximate or precise location and sends coordinates to the DogDogHK service to return nearby places. It is not stored in your profile or used in the background.
  • Our service providers may process device, IP, request, security and diagnostic information needed to deliver and protect the service.
  • If you email us, we receive the information and attachments you choose to send.

How we use information

We use information to authenticate accounts, provide nearby search, sync saved places, review community contributions, publish approved profile or review content, answer support requests, prevent abuse, maintain security and improve reliability. Photos selected in the app are resized and have location metadata removed before upload.

Public content and service providers

A public profile, approved review or approved photo can be visible to other people when you choose to contribute. Private dog preferences, drafts and saved places are not public. We use Supabase for account, database and media services, and MapLibre with OpenFreeMap or another configured map provider to display maps. The website uses Google Analytics. These providers process data under their own terms and privacy practices. Links to venues, OpenRice, Google Maps and official sources take you to third-party services.

Retention, security and your choices

We retain account and contribution data while your account is active and as needed for moderation, security, legal obligations and service recovery. Data is sent over encrypted connections. No online service can guarantee absolute security.

The app lets you export your account data and request deletion from Me → Settings. You can also use our publicaccount deletion page. Deletion covers the account and associated personal data, subject to limited records we must retain for security or legal reasons.
