Start with a small pack before you subscribe

Researched on 30 September 2026. This review is based on published product information and policies, not a feeding trial.

Running low on dog food is easy to miss until you’re looking at the last few scoops. Buddy Bites offers a straightforward way to keep the next bag on its way: choose a recipe, set up regular deliveries and adjust them when you need to. The 20% subscription discount is appealing, but we’d start with a small one-off order before making it a routine.1

That means looking past the flavour on the front of the bag. Check the full ingredients, choose the right life stage and think about the size of the kibble. Those details are more useful than a long list of marketing claims.

Which recipe should you start with

The adult range includes duck, salmon, mini salmon, turkey and lamb, with a chicken recipe for puppies. There isn’t a separate senior formula. Buddy Bites says its kibble is made in the Netherlands; its treats come from New Zealand and its toppers from Thailand. The toppers are an addition to a complete diet, so don’t treat them as a replacement for your dog’s main food.2

For a small dog, the salmon options are worth a closer look. The regular salmon kibble measures about 12–14 mm, while mini salmon uses the same formula in smaller 6–8 mm pieces. If your dog finds larger pieces awkward, that is a practical difference.34

The salmon recipe contains brown and white rice, so it isn’t grain-free. Duck and turkey contain chicken fat. If you’re avoiding an ingredient because of a suspected or diagnosed allergy, don’t choose by the recipe name alone; check the full label with your vet.356

What the subscription changes

Buddy Bites advertises 20% off and free shipping for subscriptions, with options to skip a delivery, change the order or cancel. That could be handy once you know how quickly your dog gets through a bag. It also means you don’t have to commit to a fixed routine forever. Still, set the delivery interval around your actual use so unopened bags don’t start piling up.1

At the time of checking, a 500 g salmon bag was HK$58 for a one-off purchase, giving you a smaller starting point than a full-size bag. For a larger example, the 2 kg lamb bag was HK$218, or HK$109 per kg, with a subscription price of HK$174.40. Compare the same recipe and pack size, including delivery, rather than assuming every flavour has the same small-pack option.78

For one-off orders, the shipping policy currently offers free delivery over HK$320. It lists 1–2 working days for Hong Kong Island and 2–3 working days for other areas. Check the final delivery charge and timing at checkout, especially if you’re ordering a small trial bag. And give yourself a little overlap with the food you already have rather than waiting until the last scoop.9

The shelter donation programme

According to Buddy Bites, it donates 1 kg of food to shelters for every 2 kg of kibble sold, and Hong Kong Dog Rescue is among its named partners. For owners who already like the food, that’s an appealing extra.10

A few checks before you order

Start with the bag’s complete-food and life-stage information. If your dog needs a medical diet, ask your vet before changing it. For an ordinary switch, follow the transition guidance and watch how your dog gets on.2

It’s also worth reading the returns policy before buying a large quantity. The stated return window is 14 days, including transit time. Faulty or damaged goods can be collected free; other returns are at the customer’s expense. Don’t assume an opened bag can be sent back simply because your dog doesn’t like it.9

Who Buddy Bites suits

Buddy Bites is worth shortlisting if you want straightforward dry-food delivery and expect to reorder the same recipe. Mini salmon adds a useful choice for dogs that prefer smaller pieces, while the subscription can take one regular shopping job off your list. Try a small pack, check the all-in price and see how the food fits your routine before setting up repeat deliveries.
