FWD Pet Care Hong Kong: bolttech insurer, plan limits and claim example

FWD's Pet Care page sells a bolttech policy. Compare Plan 1–3 medical caps, 20% co-insurance, waiting period and a worked HK$1,200 vet bill.

Pet Care on FWD’s website is insured by bolttech Insurance (Hong Kong) Company Limited. FWD Financial Limited is the appointed insurance agency.1 If a large surgery bill is your concern, compare Plan 3’s HK$60,000 annual medical limit with Plan 2’s HK$30,000 annual clinical and surgical limit. Plans 1 and 2 also cap consultation and prescribed medicine at HK$250 each per visit. Plan 3 uses its annual medical limit instead. All three have 20% medical co-insurance.2

These figures come from the brochure linked on FWD’s live product page, checked 25 September 2026. Your quote and issued policy control the actual price and claim. Compare Hong Kong pet insurance.

Which plan fits your vet bills?

Medical benefit Plan 1 Plan 2 Plan 3
Consultation and prescribed medicine HK$250 each per visit; 20 visits each per year Same as Plan 1 Within the HK$60,000 annual medical limit
Overnight room and board Not covered HK$250 per day, up to 12 days Within the HK$60,000 annual medical limit
Clinical and surgical expenses Not covered HK$30,000 per year Within the HK$60,000 annual medical limit
Your share of covered medical claims 20% 20% 20%

Plans 2 and 3 offer an optional HK$10,000 or HK$30,000 medical top-up for a higher premium. The brochure says it applies when the clinical and surgical benefit is exhausted; ask bolttech how that trigger works on Plan 3 before buying. Third-party liability is HK$600,000 on Plans 1 and 2 and HK$1 million on Plan 3, with a HK$3,000 excess per claim.

A HK$1,200 visit, worked through

Suppose a Plan 2 dog has an eligible HK$600 consultation and HK$600 of prescribed medicine, with both annual visit allowances unused. The two HK$250 visit caps allow HK$500 into the claim. After 20% co-insurance, the illustrative reimbursement is HK$400 and the owner’s share is HK$800. This assumes no exclusion or other adjustment. Plan 3 has a different annual-limit structure; do not apply Plan 2’s HK$250 caps to it.

Eligibility and costs that change the decision

  • Illness wait: 30 days from the policy effective date for illness-related medical expenses. The issued wording determines whether a particular accident is covered.
  • New entry age: six months to eight years in the published table. Ages nine to 15 are marked renewal only.
  • Exclusions: pre-existing conditions, routine check-ups, preventive vaccines, most dental treatment, desexing and diet food. Accident-related dental treatment has an exception in the brochure.
  • Premium example: the brochure lists HK$1,410 / HK$3,694 / HK$6,851 for Plans 1 / 2 / 3 for a dog aged six months to three years, before the insurance levy. These are brochure prices, not a personal quote. Age and some breeds change the premium; certain named breeds and crosses are excluded.

Plans 2 and 3 add funeral, holiday-cancellation, lost-pet advertising, overseas and emergency-boarding benefits with their own caps. Emergency boarding requires the policyholder’s hospitalisation for more than four days; it has a five-day limit and 50% co-insurance. Buy these extras for their actual limits, not their names.

Our take: Plan 1 is light medical support; Plan 2 can work if you accept small routine-visit caps; Plan 3 is the one to price if a larger annual medical pool matters. Before buying, disclose your dog’s past conditions and medicines, keep the submitted application, and ask bolttech for the full policy wording and a quote for your exact dog. For a claim, keep itemised vet invoices and records and check the submission deadline.3
