Walk with Dad at Hong Kong Guide Dogs Academy: a 2026 family-tour recap

What families did on the 14 June Lau Fau Shan tour, why it was people-only, and how to choose a future guide-dog experience.

Hong Kong Guide Dogs Academy held its Walk with Dad guided tour on 14 June 2026, 2:30pm–5:00pm. Families explored the restored Former Lau Fau Shan Police Station, learned how guide dogs are raised and trained, heard about Deep Bay, met therapy dogs and joined a parent-child workshop.

The ticket was HK$300 per adult with one child aged 12 or under included. Advance online booking and a confirmation QR code were required.

Why your own dog stayed home

This was a guided educational experience with academy dogs, not a bring-your-own-dog social. Controlled interaction protects working and therapy dogs and keeps the programme accessible to families. “People only” is the correct welfare choice here.

Children should arrive ready to listen before touching. A guide or therapy dog is working with handlers; it is not a public petting prop. Follow instructions on eye contact, approach and when interaction is invited.

Choosing another academy visit

The academy now lists self-guided exhibition visits, monthly Heartfelt Guided Tours and group options on its experience page. Check whether guide or therapy dogs will actually be present: the free self-guided exhibition specifically says they are not present during that visit.

For any booking, confirm age range, transport from Tin Shui Wai, accessibility, language, cancellation terms and whether the session is people-only. The Walk with Dad archive records the 2026 programme, not a standing weekly schedule.
