SPCA’s public reporting puts attendance in the thousands of walkers and over 1,000 dogs. Fundraising teams and a full-day market and activity zone sat alongside the walk.
The 2026 headline: dogs on the MTR
For one day only, MTR partnered with SPCA on a Woof Pass scheme. Eligible small and medium dogs could ride designated MTR services with their humans on Dogathon day. Conditions were strict: a pass was required, plus size and behaviour rules, and there were service limits.
If MTR repeats the partnership next year, read the full T&Cs the week before. This was not a permanent pets-on-MTR policy. The fine print usually spells out which MTR lines qualify, the hours the pass is valid, and the size or weight limit. Treat that page as the source of truth rather than any social post.
How to plan the next Dogathon
- Watch SPCA and dogathon.spca.org.hk from December. Enrolment usually opens months ahead, and popular slots go fast.
- Train the walk. Five kilometres on pavement with stimulation is harder than a quiet estate loop. Build distance in January with at least one longer weekend practice.
- Heat and water. March can still be humid. Pack more water than you think, and a small towel for paws.
- ID plus licence. AFCD licence, microchip, and vaccination record.
- Stroller or carrier backup for small or senior dogs that fade mid-route. A folding stroller is a sound investment if you plan to do charity walks regularly.
- Fundraising page early if you walk as a team. Leaderboards close before event day, and many teams raise more than half their total in the final seven days.
- Logistics the night before. Set the alarm, pack the bag, and pin the meeting point. Most Dogathon dropouts happen on the morning of, not on the route.
After the walk: a calm dinner beats another crowd
Disneyland days are long. If your dog still has the energy for a sit-down meal on the way home, choose a known dog-friendly listing rather than a random plaza:

If your dog is wiped out by the time you get home, a quiet walk on a nearby promenade and an early dinner are a better plan than a noisy restaurant. The SPCA banner event will be back in 2027, and per the official site, similar MTR Woof Pass partnerships have run on the day. The same advice applies year after year: train the walk, watch the fine print, and pack more water than you think you need.
